A 27-year-old woman was found hanging in her room at her house in Kota, Rajasthan. After receiving the news, the police rushed to the scene, seized the body and sent it for autopsy. Based on a complaint from the deceased’s relatives, police on Tuesday registered a dowry death case against her husband and in-laws. Police said they are taking action on the matter.

Police said the deceased has been identified as Manisha Kumari, the wife of Lokesh (32), the news agency reported. DSP Ganga Shaya said that on Monday afternoon, Lokesh informed the police that Manisha locked the door of her room from outside and failed to respond even after knocking on the door several times.

Dowry harassment charges

DSP Ganga Shaya said that after receiving the information, the police team reached the spot and broke in the door and found Manisha hanging from the ceiling. He said the victim’s family had accused Lokesh and his parents of molesting Manisha since her marriage two years ago and harassing her for dowry.

The body will be handed over to the family after autopsy.

Responding to the complaint, the police registered a dowry death case against the husband and in-laws under Section 80 of the Indian Judiciary Code. After post-mortem, Manisha’s body was handed over to her family members on Tuesday morning.
