Kolkata, 2 October (IANS) In view of the weather season with idol immersion in the Hooghly river on Dashmi Day on Thursday, Kolkata Police and Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) have taken several steps for no uncontrolled incident during this process.
As it has started raining in Kolkata, there are special measures to deal with the situation.
There are 28 ghats on Hooghly where the idol will be immersed. Of these, 18 are important where a large number of idols are submerged. Apart from the ghats, there are many ponds where idol immersion also occurs.
Policemen will be deployed at all 28 ghats, as well as more than 200 marks from where the idol immersion procession is taken out.
River traffic police will also be a man of ghats. Around 62 teams of disaster response force will be deployed on 28 ghats and ponds to avoid any chaos or events. Police boats with divers will be ready at 25 ghats on the river.
In addition, 5 specially trained divers of the disaster response force will patrol the ghats in motion boats with scuba diving sets. About 6 divers will be on duty in a police boat at Baje Kadomtala Ghat. This police system will be from 2 October to 5 October.
An executive engineer will be posted at each ghat to monitor the work of immersion. An ambulance will also be kept ready in the ghat complex.
Adequate lighting has been arranged in the ghat for immersion after sunset.
Meanwhile, air monitoring will be done using drones. Additional CCTV cameras have been installed. A rescue team is being prepared in the water police office.
In addition, the disaster management group special forces are deployed in Bagazar Ghat, Baje Kadomtala Ghat, Gwalior Ghat and Nimtala Ghat. Watch towers will be set up at seven ghats for monitoring. Under an inspector, a police team will be posted at each ghat, which will be monitored by Assistant Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner. Along with immersion, the police will also cooperate with the municipality in cleaning the ghat.
Alerts are being shared on the mobile phones of the members of the Pooja Committee, they have been informed of the high tide time in the Hooghly River to ensure a smooth immersion process.
The police is also keeping a close watch on the Pooja Committee to ensure that no DJ is used during immersion processions. If someone uses a DJ or any such complaint is received, the police will immediately take legal action against that puja committee.
Meanwhile, civil officials have made several arrangements to keep the ghats clean. Arrangements have been made to keep flowers, betel nuts and other offerings near the ghats before immersion. Dustbins have been installed for this purpose. KMC’s sanitation workers have been deployed at the ghat since Thursday.
About 3,500 puja are held in Kolkata, including homes and community puja.
