King Charles is understood to have refused to meet Prince Harry over fears his upcoming engagement would be overshadowed by the eclipse.

The monarch, 75, is set to host a garden party for 5,000 people later today, as the Duke of Sussex prepares to attend the Thanksgiving service for the Invictus Games without the support of the family.

talking to The Daily BeastA former palace courtier revealed: “Certainly the reconciliation between father and son is important. But the problem is that any meeting with Harry would have completely overshadowed Charles’s return to work this week, which his office will, quite rightly, see as the story of the week.

“Charles is hosting a garden party for 5,000 people on Wednesday. It’s a very miraculous and brave thing for someone undergoing cancer treatment to do this. Does he really want to be removed from the front page?” he explained.

“Their office does not want to think about the Duke of Sussex. “I think if the country was demanding that Charles meet Harry, he would definitely meet him, but Harry is still very unpopular in Britain,” the source added.

“Many people still think Harry ruined the last years of his grandparents (Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip) by attacking their life’s work.

“Does Charles want to spend his political capital on Harry’s rehabilitation, especially if Harry uses it to further his commercial deals? That’s why a lot of us were skeptical that there was going to be a big heart-to-heart this week,” he added.
