King Charles cancer treatment: Royal family announces ‘major changes’ to Easter celebrations

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will also miss the major event

Buckingham Palace has confirmed that King Charles will attend this Sunday’s religious service.

The king stepped back from public-facing duties last month after he was diagnosed with cancer.

Sunday’s ceremony at St George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle will mark King Charles’ return to public view after nearly two months. However, earlier reports suggested that Kate Middleton, who is also battling cancer, and her immediate family, including Prince William, would not be able to attend the event.

According to recent updates, it has now been confirmed that Princess Anne’s daughter Zara Tindall will also be absent from the event. It is worth noting that Princess Anne’s daughter is not a working member of the royal family.

The 42-year-old will travel to Sotheby Estate in Nottinghamshire for a three-day showjumping event on Good Friday.

The former world and European champion will compete at the senior level with two horses at the spring eventing carnival at Torresby Park near Ollerton.

The event will take place from Friday, March 29th to Sunday, March 31st.

This means Zara will miss the royal Easter service at St George’s Chapel, which will be attended by King Charles and Queen Camilla.

Zara has been a consistent attender of Easter Sunday services in recent years, along with her husband Mike, 45, and their three children Mia, 10, Lena, five, and Lou, three Cass.

Since the King and Princess of Wales announced they had cancer, many royal commentators have highlighted members of the royal family who need more work, such as Zara Tindall.

Royal commentator Angela Levin told UK News: “My own view is [King Charles] Being able to have Princess Anne’s daughter Zara is because she and her husband Michael also come from ordinary backgrounds, but they fit in well with the royal family. He can do very well.

“They’re popular, they’re very friendly, they’re happy, they’re honorable, they’re loyal to all the royals. So he can do that.”

However, commentators are not keen on Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie becoming working royals.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will also be absent from the major event, as the couple have been away from royal duties since 2020.
