Kim Cattrall joins Sex and city reboot And Just Like That

In a move no one saw coming, Kim Cattrall has reportedly filmed a cameo in the upcoming Season 2 of the SATC reboot, And Just Like That, which premieres on BINGE on June 22.

According to Variety, Cattrall will reprise her iconic role as powerhouse publicist Samantha Jones in the Season 2 finale, however she will only appear in one scene.

In the clip, Samantha will reportedly have a phone conversation with Sarah Jessica Parker’s character, Carrie Bradshaw.

Fans may recall the duo were estranged in Season 2 of AJLT and Samantha was living in London, but they still exchanged texts throughout the season. The pair even made plans to see each other to try to mend their fractured friendship.

According to sources, Cattrall filmed her dialogue on March 22 in New York City, without seeing or speaking with Bradshaw or her other former SATC co-stars Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis. It’s believed she also did not interact with the series’ showrunner Michael Patrick King.

Cattrall’s brief cameo on AJLT will come as a surprise to many as in previous interviews, she made it known she was done playing the role of Samantha Jones after she refused to sign on to a third SATC movie.

“I would have preferred for all of us to have some kind of event to warrant a third film,” she told Variety in 2022. “That didn’t happen.”

Cattrall’s decision to reject a potential third film caused a very public fallout between herself and Parker. Therefore, when the series reboot was announced in 2021, Cattrall wasn’t approached to reprise her role as Samantha, with both Parker and King saying they did not need her character to move the series along.

However, it’s believed as filming of AJLT’s second season progressed, Casey Bloys, the chairman and CEO of HBO and Max content, approached Cattrall about returning as Samantha and she obliged.

But fans will still have to wait a while before she graces or screens. Although the show premieres this month on BINGE, Samantha’s scenes won’t air until the scheduled finale in August.
