Chennai, 6 October (IANS) AIADMK General Secretary and Opposition leader Edappadi. Palaniswami (EPS) on Monday accused the DMK government of delaying the “double standards” by delaying action in a major kidney smuggling case.
In a strong words statement, EPS stated that the DMK’s selective approach to law enforcement “has become transparent before the people of Tamil Nadu.”
He said that the officials of the State Health Department had themselves confirmed the incidents of kidney smuggling incidents at a private medical college hospital owned by a DMK MLA in Mannachanallur, Tiruchirappalli and in another private hospital in Erode district.
According to the EPS, the victims were the poor Shakti Laragra workers of Kumarapalam in Namakkal district, allegedly exploited by organ brokers.
“The Madurai bench of the Madras High Court condemned the kidney racket as a heinous crime and ordered strict action against hospitals and brokers. It also directed the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) under Prem Anand Sinha. However, even after a month, the DMK government has not started the investigation,” he said.
The EPS, unlike this inaction, was shown in the case of Karur stampede with “extraordinary haste”, in which 41 people were killed during Vijay’s 27 September rally.
He said, “In Karur, the moment the court passed an order, a police team led by the IG was formed within hours before the government received a copy of the order, and the investigation began immediately.”
“The question arises-why the Stalin-led government did not take the same seriousness in the kidney smuggling case? Both cases included the orders of the same Madras High Court. But when the government moved the electricity-teej into one, it has pulled its feet into the other. It reveals the failure of the so-called ‘Stalin Model’.”
He alleged that DMK protects people close to the ruling party, targeting his opponents.
The EPS said, “The people of Tamil Nadu now clearly look at the hypocritical action of the DMK, when it is in line with their political needs, when they are involved,” EPS said, urged the government to urge the government to start an SIT investigation without further delay.
