Jamnagar, Nov 18 (IANS) Jamnagar’s world famous Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary is once again alive with the arrival of thousands of migratory birds.
Spread over a vast expanse of greenery, this sanctuary is echoing with the chirping of birds and splashes. This adds to the spectacular natural beauty of the sanctuary.
This gives a spectacular view all around the sanctuary, which attracts nature lovers from across the country and abroad. Tourists say that with the arrival of winter the beauty of Khijadiya becomes even more enchanting.
According to official information, the sanctuary is home to more than 300 species of migratory birds. These birds reach the sanctuary by traveling long distances from areas like Afghanistan, Europe, Africa, Iran-Iraq and Siberia. These birds choose Khijariya as their seasonal habitat due to its rich biodiversity, favorable climate and abundant food sources.
Speaking about the importance of the sanctuary, Dakshaben Vaghasia, Range Forest Officer, Khizadiya Bird Sanctuary, said that the winter months are the peak season for visiting, as many migratory species congregate here, making it a paradise for bird lovers and photographers.
Located just 12 kilometers from Jamnagar, Khijadiya Bird Sanctuary is spread over about 6.5 square kilometers.
As the cold season sets in, the influx of tourists has already started, with tourists coming to witness the breathtaking sunrise and the playful activities of birds in their natural habitat.
Tourists from different parts of Gujarat expressed their enthusiasm. Mittal Rana from Ahmedabad said that seeing birds in such a peaceful environment is a refreshing experience.
Another visitor, Riddhi, also from Ahmedabad, shared that the sanctuary offers a rare opportunity to see different bird species at close range in a peaceful setting.
Khijadiya’s unique ecosystem – comprising freshwater lakes, brackish reservoirs and wetlands – makes it an ideal natural breeding ground for migratory birds.
Every year, millions of tourists visit the sanctuary to experience its mesmerizing landscape and vibrant wildlife. Many people leave with unforgettable memories captured in their cameras and hearts.
