Kgmu To Offer Free Med Check-up | Lucknow News – Times of India

LUCKNOW: The King George’s Medical University (KGMU) will offer free annual medical check up to families which have donated bodies of their dear ones for medical education.

This will be in addition to the existing free-of-cost lifelong treatment offered by the university to such families.
The decision was taken in KGMU’s executive council meeting on Friday. EC has also decided to provide a unique ID to such families so that they don’t have to go in for registration to get free medical treatment.

Like university staff members, who undergo annual health screening, these families will also receive pathological, radiological, and microbiological tests during annual check up.
The agenda was tabled in the meeting to encourage body donation which is required for medical education of MBBS and BDS students.
According to officials, KGMU needs at least two cadavers every fortnight which is quite tough as these are also utilized in other workshops vital for the progress of medical education. There have been instances when shortage of cadaver arises.
KGMU vice-chancellor Lt Gen (retd) Prof Bipin Puri said, “The facility will encourage people to pledge to donate their bodies for medical education and research.”
