Kerala’s famous Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple will offer ‘Onavillu’, a traditional ceremonial bow, to Lord Rama temple in Ayodhya on the occasion of its consecration on January 22.

The bow is presented as a gift to Lord Rama temple.

The temple tantri and members of its administrative panel will hand over ‘Onavillu’ to representatives of the Sri Rama Teertha Kshetra Trust at a ceremony held at the eastern entrance of the temple on January 18, the Sri Padmanabhaswamy Temple executive officer said in a statement. on Wednesday.

‘Onavillu’ is a ceremonial offering dedicated to Lord Sri Padmanabha as part of a three century old tradition.

The traditional family members here make artistic offerings to Lord Padmanabha temple every year on the auspicious ‘Thiru Onam’ day.

“The ceremonial bow is offered at the Ayodhya temple by the devotees of Lord Padmanabha,” a temple official told PTI.

He said, it will be taken to Ayodhya by flight from Kochi.

Arrangements will be made for devotees to get a glimpse of the auspicious bow in the temple premises tomorrow. They will also get a chance to take a ceremonial bow and circumambulate the temple later, the official said.

The ‘Villu’ considered sacred by the devotees is usually a bow shaped wooden panel with inscriptions on either side such as ‘Ananthasyanam’, the mythological serpent Anantha, ‘Dasavathaaram’, incarnations of Lord Vishnu, Sriram Pattabhishekam, consecration of Lord Rama.
