Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 13 (IANS) Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday strongly defended his personal and family integrity in the wake of reports that his son Vivek Kiran Vijayan has received summons from the Enforcement Directorate (ED), saying the allegations are baseless and politically motivated.
Speaking at a press conference, Vijayan said his political career has always been “clean”, emphasizing that he has maintained zero tolerance towards corruption during his decade-long tenure as chief minister.
“A project, when it takes shape, usually involves bribery elsewhere, but in Kerala, such things do not happen. I am proud of it,” he said, underlining that he and his family, including his two children, have maintained an unblemished public record.
Vijayan highlighted that his son, Vivek Kiran, is completely focused on his professional work and domestic life, has done nothing wrong, and has brought no disrepute to the family.
He said, “Many people are trying to bring down my children, but my son has done no wrong at all. I am really proud of that.”
Questioning the veracity of the reports, the Chief Minister asked how the summons could have been issued without his knowledge and how it reached the media.
Vijayan said, “We have not seen any such summons, nor has my son received it. The agencies will play their role, but a false picture is being painted to paint me in black.”
Vijayan also referred to previous threats, saying, “Some time ago, a person told me that a bomb is coming. I said we will wait, but it is a wet cracker,” implying that there is no substance to the current allegations.
He reiterated his commitment to transparent governance and clearly stated that neither he nor his family has been involved in corruption.
The Chief Minister’s comments come amid increased media scrutiny on the SNC-Lavalin case and ED notices, as political opponents have attempted to link the development to him personally.
