Kerala police raided Congress leader’s house in case of cyber misconduct, CPI-M target women leader

Kochi, September 22 (IANS) Kerala Police on Monday made a discovery at the residence of Congress leader CK Gopalakrishnan, regarding a cyber-aberration case filed by CPI-M women leader KJ Shine.

Shine, a popular party leader in Ernakulam district, was the candidate who lost the Ernakulam Lok Sabha seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, which was won by Congress leader Hibi Eden.

On the basis of Shine’s complaint, an FIR has now been lodged, where he has alleged that he was humiliated in a case that had no quota of truth, and his dignity was impressed.

The FIR consists of nominated Gopalakrishnan, former Chief Minister of Legendary CPI-M vs Achuthanandan and former close associates of KM Shahjahan.

On Monday, officials seized a mobile phone used to post derogatory materials against Shine on social media.

Police said the technical inquiry would determine whether the phone was actually used to create positions.

Gopalakrishnan was not present at the time of the raid, and the police suspect that he is absconding.

He is expected to receive a notice soon for questioning in the case.

The investigation follows the complaint lodged by Shine. To accelerate the investigation into cyber-horses, the investigative team has requested Meta to assist to find out the origin of the posts.

Police said that after receiving the report from Meta, further action will be taken including arrest.

The report is important to find out whether the accounts used for posting were operated by the accused individuals.

The case also includes cyber attacks against CPI-M MLA Kn Unnikrishnan, which highlights the broad scope of investigation.

Officers are reviewing more than 100 social media accounts associated with aggressive posts and considering incorporating more individuals as investigation increases.

Police emphasized that the meta report would play an important role in proceeding with legal proceedings and ensuring accountability for online harassment.

Apart from Shine, complaints from other CPI-M leaders have underlined the severity of the case, causing rapid action by the investigation team.

The police have assured that the investigation will continue strictly with efforts to identify all the responsible parties and take appropriate legal action.

The case reflects increasing concern over social media misuse for targeted harassment of political data in Kerala.

Shahjahan said that he would defend the case against him on the appropriate platform.
