Kochi, October 1 (IANS) Malayalam rapper Hiran Das Murali, known as Vedan, is facing increasing legal troubles after the police filed a charge sheet against him in the rape case in Kerala.
The action follows the complaint of a young doctor, who alleged that Vedan befriended him in 2021 via Instagram, promised to marry him, and under that assurance, between 2021 and 2023, between 2021 and 2023, he was engaged in sexual relations at various places including Kozhikode and Kochi.
The complainant also stated that the two lived briefly together and supported them financially, including their debut albums and travel expenses.
He further alleged that Vedan exploited his faith while maintaining physical relations.
The charge sheet includes his testimony, witnesses’ statements and chat records. Vedan, who had been absconding for weeks, was arrested on 10 September.
However, since he had already obtained anticipatory bail from the Kerala High Court on 27 August, the arrest was recorded only as a formality.
He was questioned for five hours on 9 September and directed to appear again the next day, during which the arrest was officially registered. After the customer medical checkup, he was released from custody.
During interrogation, Vedan denied the allegations, claiming that the relationship was agreed and began after contacting him as a fan of the complainant.
His lawyer argued that the complaint stems with personal differences, while the complainant’s lawyer opposed the bail, pointing to the same allegations as other women. However, the High Court ruled that each case should be considered independently.
This is not the only case against the rapper.
Hill Palace Police in Kochi on Tuesday filed a charge sheet against Vedan in a marijuana case after recovering the cannabis from its Tripunithura flat on 28 April. Vedan and eight others were listed as accused.
The charge sheet filed after a delay of five months states that he used the cannabis.
