Kannur, 2 October (IANS) KP Mohanan, an MLA of the ruling Democratic Front and an MLA of former State Agriculture Minister, became thicker by a group of people in his Kutuparampu assembly constituency in Kannur district on Thursday.
The 75 -year -old leader, who represents a seat on behalf of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), a associate of Rashtriya, arrived at Kariadu to inaugurate Anganwadi when the incident took place.
The local residents, who had been opposing the alleged pollution from a dialysis center in the area for some time, faced the MLA as he went towards the site.
Eyewitnesses said that a group of agitated men and women surrounded them, raised slogans and questioned them on their complaints.
What started as a warm oral exchange soon turned into push and pulling.
At that time, the MLA who looked isolated from his supporters was seen and many times he lost his balance before regaining it.
From the spot the video clip showed Mohanan opposing the protesters that he would proceed with his program.
Despite the conflict, he eventually managed to move forward at the inauguration site.
Those actively involved in the protest were women who voiced their anger with men.
Kuthuparampu is a politically sensitive constituency, once represented by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
Mohanan himself has deep political roots in the region – his late father, PR Kurup, was also a minister in the earlier left government.
Mohanan acted as the Minister of Agriculture in the United Democratic Front (UDF) government -led United Democratic Front (UDF) government between 2011 and 2016, representing the Samajwadi Janata Dal.
When the party shifted Nishtha back to the left, Mohanan followed the suit and won its seat from Kutuprampu in the 2021 assembly elections.
Local resident Kannan said that this pollution issue has been setting fire for almost two years. Kannan said, “Despite repeated demands to tide on the issue of this pollution, nothing happened, and the locals were upset.”
This episode highlights local dissatisfaction over environmental concerns associated with dialysis center. It remains to be seen whether the MLA will raise the issue with the police as the election is around the corner.
