Malappuram, Kerala:

The Kerala police have taken a man into custody after his family raised suspicion over the death of his two-and-a-half-year-old daughter.

The child was taken to a hospital in Wandol on Sunday by her father, who claimed she had choked on food.

However, she could not be saved. Later, her relatives claimed that he beat the child. We have registered a case of unnatural death and he is currently in custody, they said.

They are awaiting the autopsy report to continue working on the case.

Relatives told the media that there were some problems in the marriage and the mother of the child had lodged a complaint against him.

“He called us and claimed the child had choked on something,” the family said.

The family also claimed that the child had injuries and demanded severe punishment.
