Malappuram (Kerala), October 17 (IANS) A family in Kerala’s Malappuram on Friday demanded action after their UKG student was left on the roadside for non-payment of school bus fees.
The School of Chelambara is an aided management school where the salaries are paid by the state government, while the day-to-day operations are handled by a private management.
The family has appealed to the Education Minister, State Commission for Protection of Child Rights and the police for justice.
The incident involved a five-year-old UKG student of Chelambra ALP School, who was allegedly not allowed to board the bus earlier this week due to non-payment of fees.
The child, who was waiting for the bus as usual, was told that he could not board the bus as the fee had not been paid and was allegedly left on the roadside without informing the parents, as the bus left without him.
As other students boarded the bus, the crying child returned home. Neighbors saw the crying child and helped him reach home safely.
The school claims that the bus driver acted on the instructions of the principal.
The principal’s direction reportedly came due to the delay in payment of Rs 1,000 as bus fee for two months.
Later, school officials and PTA members met the family to apologize.
However, due to the mental problems the child has suffered, the family has decided to withdraw him from school.
The parents said the child was abandoned on the roadside without any prior notice. While other students were allowed to board the bus, the five-year-old was forced to return home crying, he said.
The mother also told that when she came to complain, the school management behaved rudely and asked her to leave from there.
The mother confirmed that the child would no longer be attending school, while school officials said they had no comment on the matter.
