Thiruvananthapuram, November 2 (IANS) There is turmoil in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Kerala after its former spokesperson MS Kumar accused Thiruvananthapuram unit secretary and councilor K. Explosive allegations have been made linking Anilkumar’s death to internal financial irregularities within the party.

Following his revelations, senior BJP state leaders have reportedly been reaching out to Kumar in an attempt to calm him down and save the party from further embarrassment.

In a detailed Facebook post, Kumar claimed that massive financial mismanagement and lack of accountability has put party workers like Anilkumar in dire straits. “In the co-operative society of which I am a part, about 70 per cent of the debtors are from my party, and 90 per cent of those who have not paid are also from the same party,” he wrote.

Anilkumar, 58, who managed a co-operative society in Valiyasala, was found hanging in his ward office in Thirumala on September 20. Police said the suicide note did not contain direct political allegations, but admitted that he was under immense pressure from depositors demanding repayment.

His death sparked a political controversy, with the CPI(M) holding the BJP morally responsible.

Kumar alleged that many of the defaulters were senior functionaries, cell convenors and even recent inductees who had joined the BJP after forging links with the central leadership.

“I pleaded with them several times, but nothing changed. So, I will soon reveal their names and the amount owed to them,” he said. Describing Anilkumar as an “honest politician with immense potential”, Kumar said that financial betrayal within the system had driven him to despair.

“He could have gone far in politics, but his involvement in the co-operative sector and the burden of debt to others ruined him. I know his pain – because I too am going through the same thing.” Kumar also blamed the media for worsening the crisis.

He wrote, “Some people spread false news that our society has collapsed. Borrowers stopped paying, depositors rushed to withdraw money and those whom Anil trusted abandoned him.” Hitting out at political hypocrisy, Kumar remarked, “Real political commitment is not about paying floral tributes after death – it is about repaying the debt you have taken.”

Sources said state BJP leaders have started personal talks with Kumar to stop him from releasing the names of the alleged defaulters. However, the party has not yet issued any official statement on this matter.
