Kerala BJP lauds NDA’s performance in Bihar; Congress called the result a ‘victory for the Election Commission’

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 14 (IANS) Senior BJP leader and former Union Minister of State V. Muraleedharan on Thursday lauded the NDA’s stellar performance in the Bihar Assembly elections and attributed the result to “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s concerted efforts to take India forward through the right policies and programmes”. However, the Congress said that it was “the Election Commission that won them the Bihar elections.”

Muraleedharan said the decision exposed the weakness of the Congress, which, according to him, has been “destroyed” despite aggressive campaign rhetoric.

Pointing out the poor performance of the Left, Muraleedharan remarked that the CPI(M) had achieved only one lead and that too because of the support of the CPI(ML).

He said that the landslide victory in Bihar will give a lot of energy to the BJP’s campaign for the upcoming local body elections in Kerala.

“This victory will give a huge boost to the BJP in Kerala,” he said.

However, the Congress rejected Muraleedharan’s claims, with senior MLA Ramesh Chennithala saying that the NDA had not actually won the election.

Instead, he alleged that it was “the Election Commission that won the election for him.”

Speaking to reporters in Kerala, Chennithala said democracy in India is “in grave danger”, stressing that what happened first in Maharashtra and Haryana has now been repeated in Bihar.

He urged all political parties to introspect on what he described as a deep erosion of democratic norms.

As counting of votes continues for Bihar Assembly elections, BJP national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala attributed the initial results to the strong pro-incumbency wave in favor of the NDA under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“If the government is coming back in Bihar, it shows a decisive pro-incumbency factor for the NDA under Prime Minister Modi, which we have been seeing continuously since 2014. Prime Minister Modi has now formed his government at the Center thrice,” Poonawalla said.

He said the early numbers from Bihar once again point to voters supporting continuity, stability and what the party calls a strong growth model.

Additionally, early trends also show that BJP is emerging as the largest party in the Bihar Assembly elections, currently leading in 85 out of 243 seats.

As of 1.30 pm, the BJP was ahead on 90 seats, confirming its position as the largest party, while the Nitish Kumar-led Janata Dal (United) was ahead on 81 seats.
