The drop in temperatures over Christmas is not expected to cause any concerns for exciting events boxing Day card in store Kempton And entry,
Kempton plays host to what promises to be a memorable renewal of the Ladbrokes King George VI Chase, with the Willie Mullins-trained pair of Fact To File and Gaelic Warrior set for a rematch following their spectacular John Durcan clash.
There has been no White Christmas in the country and while there may be low readings overnight before Boxing Day, the forecast ahead of the meeting should not trouble racing fans.
Kempton clerk Barney Clifford said: “Our temperature dropped two degrees overnight and there is an easterly wind which is very cold.
“The ground conditions have been described as good, ranging from good to soft in some places. Tony Martin trained his runners this morning and he thought it was beautiful ground, we’re in a good place.
“We are expecting frost tonight and it could go down to minus one (degrees Celsius), but we should be okay with that because we have covered take-offs and landings and sensitive areas.
“It’s a phenomenal card over two days, we’re really looking forward to it.”
Aintree is also set to stage a Grade One card with the William Hill Formby Novices’ Hurdle featuring, and they too are well ahead ground-wise ahead of Boxing Day.
Clerk of the course Sulekha Verma said: “We are good at being soft, soft in places where there is no sign of rain.
“It’s gotten colder today, but we didn’t get frost this morning, we may get frost on the grass tomorrow, but there’s nothing to worry about.
“We’re looking forward to a really good day of racing.”
