'Keep shouting Murdabad, I...': Heated spat between Nitish Kumar

Nitish Kumar returned to the BJP-led NDA last month.

Patna:

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar got into a heated argument with unruly opposition members inside the Assembly on Wednesday.

Angered by the BJP MLA’s use of abusive language while referring to the RJD MLAs the previous day, the opposition walked out of the House within 30 minutes of the commencement of the proceedings.

It all started when the opposition members came to the well of the House and started raising slogans against the government, Speaker Nand Kishore Yadav appealed for order but was ignored.

In response to slogans of “Down with the Chief Minister (Down with the CM)”, a clearly irritated Mr Kumar said, “Keep shouting ‘Murdabad’ against me. I will say ‘Zindabad’ to you. But remember, in the next election most of you will be re-elected. You will fail to get elected. Then you can spend your time making noise in your constituencies.”

The JDU president, who last month broke away from the RJD-led grand alliance and returned to the BJP-led NDA, said, “Our government has done a lot. But whenever you come to power, you people indulge in wrongdoings.” Gone. I am.” Going to fix everything.”

Mr Kumar, who a day earlier had ordered that school timings be changed to 10 am to 4 pm instead of 9 am to 5 pm earlier fixed by the education department, sought the removal of Additional Chief Secretary KK Pathak. Also objected.

“You are demanding removal of an officer. Do you have the right to do so? You want to remove the most honest officer,” Mr Kumar said, though he did not name him.

“Once I received complaints against the new school timings, I lost no time in fixing it,” he said. Kumar had told the House that the timing would be changed. Later in the day, a notification was issued announcing the revised school hours.

When the opposition members kept demanding an apology for the BJP MLA’s remarks, the Speaker asked them to return to their seats and raise the issue during Zero Hour.

After this the opposition members walked out.
