Senior BJP leader Kavinder Gupta was sworn in as Ladakh’s new Lieutenant Governor (LG) on Friday, four days later by President Dupadi Murmu appointed him to the post.
Gupta took oath of office at Ladakh Raj Niwas in Leh, administered by Chief Justice Arun Palli, Chief Justice of Jammu, Kashmir and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court. Chief Secretary Pawan Kotwal read the official warrant of appointment.
The 66 -year -old Gupta is the third LG of Ladakh, who was successful in Brigadier BD Mishra, who played in February 2024. He follows RK Mathur, the first Ladakh’s first Ladakh in 2019 after Jammu and Kashmir.
A veteran BJP leader from Jammu’s Jangpur, Gupta, has served in several major positions, including the Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir in 2018, the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly and the three consecutive terms (2005–2010) of Jammu. He led the BJP’s Youth Wing, BJYM for two conditions and spent 13 months in jail during the Emergency as an RSS worker.
Gupta was first elected MLA from Gandhi Nagar in 2014, defeating Congress leader Raman Bhalla. (KNS)
