Kavinder Gupta takes oath as Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh

Kargil, July 18: Senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Kavinder Gupta took oath as Lieutenant Governor of UT Ladakh on Friday.

He was sworn in by the Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu and Ladakh, Justice Arun Palli.

CEC Lahdc Kargil, CEC LAHDC LEH, Parliament Ladakh Members, Chief Secretary Ladakh, all administrative secretaries and other dignitaries attended the ceremony held in Raj Nivad Ladakh.

The President of India on Monday appointed Gupta as the Lieutenant Governor of the Ladakh Union Region.

After his appointment, Brigade (Rit) by the President, Dr. After accepting BD Mishra’s resignation, he accepted as Lt. Governor of Ladakh. Gupta, Brigade (Rit) Dr. BD Mishra was replaced, who was appointed as LG Ladakh in February 2023.

The President’s Secretariat announced the appointment of Kavinder Gupta in an official communication, which is in the form of the new LD of Ladakh.

Gupta’s appointment has come beyond the next round of talks between MHA and Ladakh leaders next week. Ladakh leaders are demanding separate Lok Sabha seats for Leh and Kargil districts of the state and Ladakh Uut along with the position of the 6th Schedule, the legislature.

Gupta will be the third Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Uut as it was engraved from the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir in 2019.

Gupta served as Deputy Chief Minister of the PDP-BJP coalition government in 2018. He has also worked as the Speaker of Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and Mayor of Jammu.
