People in the valley have expressed anger and shock over the Delhi blast. Most locals said that the victims of such blasts are always innocent bystanders.
Abdul Ghani Mir, a resident of Hazratbal area, said, “The pain and suffering of the families whose loved ones have been killed or injured in such incidents cannot be understood by anyone better than the people living in Kashmir, because bomb blasts, firing, revenge killings and threatened killings by terrorists have brought about the disaster under which we were living for almost 40 years.”
The blast came on a day when Jammu and Kashmir Police and Haryana Police conducted a coordinated anti-terrorist operation in Haryana’s Faridabad area, where 2,900 kg of explosives, most likely ammonium nitrate, were recovered along with timer devices, an assault rifle, a pistol and other destructive materials.
Two doctors were arrested for this act of white-collar terrorism. Authorities have announced high security alert in Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Jammu and Kashmir.
Eyewitnesses described a deafening roar that “felt like the earth was collapsing,” with plumes of black smoke billowing from the debris.
Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha confirmed the intensity of the blast, adding that seven fire tenders were rushed to douse the fire, while the area was immediately cordoned off.
Notably, Jammu and Kashmir Police in the morning busted an inter-state international terror module linked to terror outfits Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, leading to the recovery of 2,900 kg of explosives, two assault rifles, pistols, timers and other material in Faridabad area of Haryana near New Delhi. Police said seven people have been arrested so far.
After the explosion at the Red Fort, this recovery took place just a day before the second phase of Bihar assembly elections.
