In a gesture surrounding India’s rich craftsmanship, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gifted Cyprus President Nicos Christodoulides a very beautiful Kashmiri silk carpet and a silver clutch purse from Andhra Pradesh for the first woman, Philip Carsera respectively, during her visit to Cyprus.

The red carpet features traditional vine and geometric motifs. This reflects the precious two-tone effects, which appears to change the colors based on the angle and light, create the illusion of two different carpets in one.

The carpet gifted to the Cyprus President represented the skills of the Kashmiri artisans.

Talking about the gift presented to the first woman, Philip Karsera, PM Modi chose a stunning silver clutch purse prepared in Andhra Pradesh.

Using repos techniques, it has temple and royal art -inspired floral designs. A semi-precious stone in the center adds a touch of elegance, and its curved shape, fancy handle, and decorated edges give it a royal look. Once used mainly for special occasions, this purse is now a stylish accessory or collector item, which shows India’s rich craft tradition in a modern way.

Earlier, on Monday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded the Grand Cross of the Supreme Civil Award at Cyprus by President Nicos Christodaulides at the President’s Mahal in Nicosia.

The order of Makros III is named after Makaros III, the first chairman of the Cyprus Republic. It is provided to the heads of the state and other people of the important situation in the recognition of meritorious service for the nation.

“For the Grand Cross of the President, Makaros III order, I express my heartfelt gratitude to you, the government of Cyprus and the people of Cyprus. This honor is not just mine, it is not mine, it is the honor of 140 crore Indians. It is an honor between their abilities and aspirations. Cyprus and our shared value and mutual understanding.

He added, “This honor is a symbol of our unwavering commitment for peace, security, sovereignty, regional integrity and prosperity of our people. I understand the importance of this honor and accept it as a responsibility for relations between India and Cyprus.”

He expressed confidence that relations between the two countries would touch new heights.

He said, “I am confident that in the coming times, our active participation will touch new heights. Together, we will not only strengthen the progress of our two countries, but will also contribute to creating a peaceful and safe global environment.”

PM Modi arrived at Cyprus on Sunday afternoon (local time), marking the first visit to the island nation by an Indian PM in two decades. He was obtained by the Chairman at Laranaka International Airport. (AI)
