Karur stampede: Vijay’s TVK approached the Supreme Court challenging the order of Madras High Court to set up an SIT

Tamil actor Vijay’s political party Tamilga Vetri Kazagam (TVK) has moved the Supreme Court challenging the order of the Madras High Court to set up a special investigation team (SIT) to investigate the Karur stampede, in which 41 people died. The apex court agreed to hear the petition on Friday (October 10).

A bench of Chief Justice BR Gawai and Justice of Justice noted the plea of ​​a lawyer that the petition filed through TVK Secretary Adhav Arjun should be listed for hearing.

On Tuesday, the bench agreed to hear the petition of BJP leader Uma Anandan, which challenged the High Court order, who denied the CBI inquiry into the stampede of 27 September.

The CJI along with the second petition agreed to hear the immediate petition on Friday.

TVK has demanded an independent inquiry under the supervision of the Supreme Court, arguing that a fair investigation conducted by Tamil Nadu Police officials would not be possible only.

41 people died and more than 60 people were injured in the stampede. Police noted that the rally saw a crowd of 27,000, which was about three times more than the expected 10,000 participants. The police also blamed the delay of seven hours in Vijay’s arrival at the venue.
