Chennai, October 1 (IANS) Tamil Nadu Police has investigated the tragedy of the Karur rally, killing 41 people including women and children, in which TVK State General Secretary N. Three special teams were formed to arrest Anand, which is also known as Busi Anand.
The step comes amid increasing pressure to catch the top officials of the newly formed party for the September 27 disaster.
The deadly incident took place in Velusmipuram near Karur when thousands of supporters gathered for a campaign rally addressed by actor-royalty Vijay. A sudden bounce and confusion in a tightly crowded crowd triggered anarchy, causing a stampede that killed 41 and injured more than 60.
The preliminary investigation pointed out failure to manage the mob control measures and inflammation.
The police have already registered cases against prominent TV leaders, including Anand, Joint General Secretary Nirmal Kumar, and Karur West District Secretary Mathiazhagan, who are not for murder and cite other allegations related to endangering public security.
Karur West District Secretary, Mathiazhagan and Treasurer of South City Ponraj have been arrested and questioned.
A member Judicial Commission led by retired Madras High Court Judge Aruna Jagadisin is investigating the circumstances that are investigating laps in planning, security and mob management due to stampede.
Based on the preliminary findings, the police have intensified efforts to track Anand and Nirmal Kumar, who have been arresting since the case is registered.
According to officials, three dedicated police teams have been deployed in several districts to locate the absconding leaders.
Investigators are scanning digital footprints and monitoring potential hideouts.
Meanwhile, Chennai Police has booked TVK election wing general secretary Adhiv Arjunan to allegedly post stimulating materials on social media, which aims to create disturbance after the tragedy.
This development underlines the intention of officials to curb inflammatory narratives, ensuring accountability.
