Karur Stamped: 12 questions of TN BJP chief for CM Stalin; CBI demands an inquiry

Chennai, 1 October (IANS) Tamil Nadu BJP President K.K. Nanner Nagentharan on Wednesday launched a brilliant attack on Chief Minister MK Stalin on Karur Stamped on 27 September, killing 41 people and many were injured during the TVK rally of actor-royalty Vijay.

After visiting the injured and bereaved families along with the BJP parliamentary facts, Nagantharan said that the tragedy highlighted “serious administrative failures” and demanded that the investigation be handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

He said that the team was “shifted deeply with pain and anger of the affected people and said that there was no public belief in the Forest-Man inquiry commission.

“Only a neutral and independent CBI probe can reveal the truth,” Nagantharan said, before underlining a series of 12 questions for the Chief Minister.

Nagentharan asked why the DMK government had allowed the Karur bus stand roundabout to be used for the Chief Minister and Deputy Chief Minister’s programs, but refused the same place for other political parties like TVK.

He questioned why, despite the video shown shoes in Vijay, despite the claims of a stick, and knife attacks on the crowd, the government failed to explain that there was a really fatal increase.

He also criticized the Chief Minister’s abnormal urgency in Karur when other tragedies such as Kallakurichi illegal liquor deaths, Vengivayal’s atrocities cases, Marina Air Show Stamped and several Custodial deaths, where, where they alleged, had no comparable immediate response.

He further alleged that the DMK government worked with “extraordinary motion” after the incident, which suggests an attempt to cover the truth rather than ensuring transparency.

The BJP leader asked why 25 people were booked and four, including journalist Felix, were arrested so quickly, which he looked like an attempt to suppress the questions from the public and the media.

Nagantharan criticized the police for convicting TVK for wrongly estimating the crowd at 10,000, while failing to assess and control very large votes.

He also questioned that if the officials believe that the delayed arrival of Vijay could cause disorders, then why the rally was not stopped or postponed.

Nagenthan said why very few police were deployed there and during such a large political meeting, Karur district police chiefs were absent, asking that there were security flaws.

Despite clear failures, he said, no action was taken against the local authorities, doubting that the government feared that deep truth could be revealed.

He criticized the Chief of the Inquiry Commission for making public remarks before ending the investigation and asked who authorized the Revenue Secretary to issue a statement that could compromise the neutrality of the investigation.

Finally, Nagenthan questioned that the DMK government, which transferred the Ajit Kumar Custodial Death case to the CBI, was not ready to do the same for Karur Stamped.

Calling the incident “man -made disaster due to DMK’s administrative laps”, Nagantharan demanded a fair CBI probe and said, “The people of Tamil Nadu are worth honest answers and accountability for this tragedy.”
