Bengaluru, October 14 (IANS) The tragic death of a female librarian due to non-payment of salary came to light from Karnataka’s Kalaburagi district on Tuesday. Hitting out at the Congress-led government over the incident, the BJP said the incident has exposed its “bankruptcy”.
Librarian Bhagyavathi V. Aggimath, 40, took her own life at the state government-run library ‘Arivu Centre’ in Mulakheda village of Kalaburagi district on Monday and left behind a death note. She had been working as a librarian for six years.
In her note, Bhagyavati said that she is taking the step due to severe financial crisis due to non-payment of salary for three months. Her family alleged that despite repeatedly contacting the authorities regarding the pending salary, no response was received. She struggled to manage her household expenses and pay the school fees of her two children.
The family has held the department directly responsible for his death and has demanded compensation as well as a job for a family member. The police have registered a case and are investigating the matter.
BJP state president and MLA BY Vijayendra said on social media It’s a matter of shame for a civilized society.”
Vijayendra demanded, “The ruthless state government has reached the point where it cannot even pay its employees, causing hardship to those employees who are dependent only on their salaries for survival. This attitude of the government is highly condemnable. The bereaved family of Bhagyavathi Aggimath is in deep distress, and the government should immediately pay appropriate compensation and provide employment to a member of the family to support her dependent children.”
From the Chief Minister to other ministers and officials, they are not responding to the problems of the public and farmers; Instead, they have become apathetic and completely focused on power politics. He said that Minister Priyank Kharge has also not shown any concern to know about the plight of his district or listen to the cry of the poor.
The state BJP president said that this incident has exposed the negligence and careless attitude of the Congress government.
