Bengaluru, October 13 (IANS) A shocking incident of gang rape of a young woman by two men on the pretext of leaving her on a two-wheeler came to light in Karnataka’s Chikkaballapur district on Monday. Police have arrested two accused in the case.
The accused have been identified as Sikandar Baba and Janardanchari, both residents of Chikkaballapur town.
The victim is currently undergoing treatment at Swadhar Institute of Development for Women and Children. The incident occurred on the Manchenahalli stretch of the road leading to Chikkaballapur town.
According to the police, the girl had come to Chikkaballapur city in search of a job and after enquiry, was going towards Manchenahalli.
One of the accused, Sikandar, who was riding a bike, saw him and offered him a lift on the pretext of helping. He then took her to an isolated place and raped her.
Later, Sikandar called his friend Janardanchari to the spot and both of them raped her again. The accused also looted the victim’s gold earrings before dropping her at a nearby petrol pump and fleeing from the spot.
When the local residents saw the victim sitting in shock for a long time, they reached her and after learning about the incident, took her to the women’s police station.
Chikkaballapur Mahila Police registered a case, started investigation and collected CCTV footage showing the accused on the road. After establishing his identity, the police traced him and arrested him.
The accused have reportedly confessed to selling the gold earrings stolen from the victim. The police have started further investigation.
Earlier, on July 10, the Parappana Agrahara police in Bengaluru had arrested four men for allegedly gang-raping a 34-year-old woman and later robbing both the victim and her friend.
The accused were identified as 23-year-old Raghu alias Appu, 26-year-old Kenchegowda, 27-year-old Madesha and 24-year-old Sasikumar.
On August 9, a mentally challenged woman was allegedly gang-raped in Karnataka’s Hassan district and the act was video recorded.
The incident came to light when the victim’s brother lodged a complaint with the Hassan police.
The complainant said that he found a video clip of his sister being sexually assaulted. He further said that the accused had circulated the video clip.
