This order will apply to the persons belonging to any of the 101 scheduled castes of the state, who were converted to Buddhism, the Social Welfare Department said in its order.
In the list of Karnataka Scheduled Castes, it has been ordered to issue Scheduled Caste Certificate for persons belonging to 101 Scheduled Castes, which have been converted into Buddhism according to Karnataka Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes (appointments in appointments, etc.), 1990 (amendment), 1992, 1992, 1992.
This order provides for permission to mention ‘Buddhism’ in the Dharma Pillar in applications for Scheduled Caste certificate.
In addition, the applicants allow the parents to enter Buddhism in the Dharma Pillar in documents of government schools/private schools/all other educational institutions, if they want they want.
He said, “All departments, boards and corporations/other institutions of the Government of Karnataka will work as per the said order.”
In a letter written in 1990, citing the central government’s instructions, the department said in its order that on the basis of the letter, the state government issued a circular in 2013, allowing scheduled caste persons to be converted into Buddhism to obtain SC certificates.
In 2016, the Central Government again asked the chief secretaries of all the states to ensure that Scheduled Castes of Buddhist people receive SC certificates.
The Social Welfare Department said, “Although a circular was issued, many organizations have filed a petition for clarity and a proper order on it.”
Buddhists come in the list of religious minorities along with Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Parsis and Jains in Karnataka.
