Kolar (Karnataka), Nov 10 (IANS) Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council and veteran BJP leader Chalavadi Narayanaswamy on Monday said that as per the court order, the recount of votes for Malur assembly constituency will be held on Tuesday at the premises of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Kolar.
A BJP delegation met Kolar District Deputy Commissioner MR Ravi on Monday and submitted a memorandum regarding the recount.
BJP leaders also mocked Congress over its claims of voter fraud.
Speaking to the media on this occasion, BJP leader Narayanaswami said that the margin of victory in the constituency was very less.
“At that time, due to the interference of some persons, the BJP candidate had lost and the votes were not recounted,” he claimed.
“At the last moment, our BJP polling agents were forcibly removed. Because of all these incidents, we were suspicious. So we approached the court, which has now given an order. The matter also went before the Supreme Court,” he said.
He also said, “During any counting process, there is always camera surveillance. Camera footage has been recorded in all other constituencies in the state – but why is there no camera footage for Malur?”
He also alleged that the votes were not tallied properly, which further increased the suspicion.
BJP leader Narayanaswami said, “The Deputy Commissioner has assured that the counting of votes will be done in a fair and transparent manner.”
Narayanaswami commented, “We know what is happening across the country and what the Congress is doing.”
He said he had stressed that the recount should be under camera surveillance and requested that anyone trying to exert pressure should be kept away.
When asked a question, he replied: “Had BR Ambedkar not lost in 1952? Who was responsible for electoral malpractices then? In 1971-72, when Raj Narayan went to court alleging electoral fraud, what verdict did the Allahabad High Court give? What turmoil did that verdict create in the country?”
“The Constitution given to us by Babasaheb Ambedkar survived for barely two and a half years after that. How are the courts functioning today? Then, the courts were barely able to issue orders – what kind of judgments are they issuing now?” he asked.
He also said, “If TN Seshan had not been the Election Commissioner, this country would never have realized that the Election Commission is an independent constitutional body.”
Among those present were MLC Keshav Prasad S, BJP chief spokesperson CN Ashwath Narayan, Malur BJP candidate Manjunath Gowda and BJP district president Chalapathi.
The Karnataka High Court had canceled the election of KY Nanjegowda (Congress MLA from Malur) for the 2023 assembly elections, saying there were “serious transparency issues” in the election process.
The court ordered recount of votes in the constituency and directed that it be completed within four weeks.
The petition for this was filed by KS Manjunath Gowda (BJP), who lost to Nanje Gowda in 2023 by a slim margin of 248 votes.
On October 14, 2025, the Supreme Court stayed the High Court order, allowing Nanjegowda to remain an MLA for the time being.
The apex court directed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to conduct recount and submit the results in a sealed cover.
