Mysuru, October 11 (IANS) Disturbing details are emerging after the post-mortem of a nine-year-old girl who was found dead near the exhibition grounds in front of Mysuru Palace.
Police said that after raping the minor girl, the accused stabbed her 19 times with a knife, due to which she died.
Police said that the minor girl was stabbed with a knife on her neck, chest, stomach and private parts.
Medical examination of the accused confirmed that he was in an intoxicated state at the time of committing the crime.
The body of a girl selling balloons was found in Mysore city of Karnataka on Thursday.
The police traced the movements of the killer through CCTV footage and arrested him on Friday.
Police said the girl’s family is one of the 50-odd tribal families living near the Doddakere grounds, opposite the Mysuru Palace and the exhibition grounds.
On Wednesday night, the victim sold balloons at Chamundeshwari Tepotsav, a religious event, and slept with her parents. On Thursday morning, the girl’s parents could not find her and lodged a complaint.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused was out on bail in a rape and attempt to murder case involving a female government employee.
The police shot the accused in the leg when he allegedly tried to escape.
Meanwhile, BJP leaders have criticized the Congress-led government for its failure to maintain law and order in Mysore city.
The accused has been identified as Karthik, a native of Kollegal town in Chamarajanagar district.
Kathik had kidnapped the girl while she was sleeping in a tent with her parents.
Earlier in 2019, Karthik had tried to rape a government employee and tried to kill her by pushing her into the lake.
He was convicted in the case in February 2020 and sentenced to four years’ imprisonment. After getting bail, he was roaming on the streets instead of returning home.
