A parent of a student lodged a police complaint against a teacher at a private school in Mangalore, Karnataka, after he allegedly made “anti-Hindu” remarks in class. Later, BJP MLA Y Bharat Shetty, who represents Mangalore city north constituency, raised the issue on Monday, demanding action against the school teacher.
“This is not the first time that anti-Hindu sentiments are being spread in certain schools,” he said in a statement. According to a complaint, a teacher at a private school in the city made derogatory remarks about Hinduism and gods in class, thus making a Hinduism is put on negative display with the alleged intention of converting students to Christianity.
Parents are demanding decisive action against teachers and school management. The MLA further alleged that schools that banned girls from wearing bangles, drawing bindi on their foreheads and following Hindu traditions were now spreading hatred against Ram Mandir.
Shetty also urged Hindus to reconsider enrolling their children in schools run by “Christian management”. He also cited historical examples of “anti-Hindu sentiments” allegedly expressed within such institutions.
The MLA said the BJP would stage protests if the school administration failed to take strict action against the accused teachers. Meanwhile, DYFI state president Muneer Katipalla in a statement lashed out at Shetty, saying MLAs would come forward only when he found out about a common hate agenda.
He took exception to Shetty’s statement that Hindu students should boycott Christian-run schools and asked the MLA whether during his tenure he had made any attempt to resolve the issues in government schools and colleges in the district.
