The shocking CCTV footage of the incident has gone viral, raising concerns.
The accused has been identified as Sukrit Keshav Gowda, 23, of Kodigehalli, Bengaluru, who works for a private firm in Whitefield. He has been arrested by Sadashivnagar police.
According to investigation, the incident occurred on October 26 at around 7.11 pm. Gowda, who was driving the car, was allegedly driving recklessly on New BEL Road near MS Ramaiah Hospital when he deliberately hit a scooter from behind.
The scooter was being driven by Vineeth A (33), a businessman from Vidyaranyapura, along with his wife Anikita Patel (31) and their young son. Due to the impact, the scooter collided with the road divider, due to which the family fell on the road.
Police said that moments before the incident, the scooter rider had honked at Gowda’s car at a traffic signal and asked him to give way. Angered by the honking of the horn, the accused allowed the scooter to move ahead and then deliberately hit it from behind.
Gowda allegedly fled the scene without offering help. Passersby rushed to the aid of the injured family and took them to MS Ramaiah Hospital, where Anikita was treated for injuries to her left arm, shoulder and head, while Vineeth suffered a rib injury. He was later discharged. However, Vineeth was later admitted to St. John’s Hospital after the pain increased.
Initially this case was registered by Sadashivnagar Traffic Police. After reviewing CCTV footage and witness statements, investigators confirmed that it was an intentional hit-and-run, and the case was transferred to the Sadashivnagar Police (Law and Order) Division.
The accused was arrested near Balaji Layout and booked under section 109 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Code of Justice (BNS). Gowda has been sent to judicial custody and further investigation is underway.
