Kalaburagi, Oct 30 (IANS) The Karnataka High Court on Thursday asked the state government to convene a peace meeting between the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and 10 other organizations in Bengaluru and adjourned to November 7 the RSS’s plea seeking permission for an event.

The court directed the state government to convene a peace meeting between the RSS and 10 other organizations in Bengaluru on November 5.

Specifically, the RSS is seeking permission to hold a march in Chittapur city on November 2, which will be represented by Karnataka IT Minister Priyank Kharge.

Meanwhile, the RSS submitted an affidavit to the bench before the debate.

RSS has made the Center a defendant in the case.

RSS has demanded security from the central government during the march. “If the State Government continues to hesitate and back down in providing proper security to the festival and allowing the petitioner to exercise his fundamental rights, the only remedy available to the petitioner is a writ or order of the High Court,” the affidavit said.

“Therefore, in view of the above grounds, it is humbly prayed that the petitioner be permitted to implead the Government of India as party respondent in the aforesaid writ petition as prayed for in the application in the interest of justice,” the affidavit said.

Notably, soon after the RSS requested permission for a march on November 2, ten other organizations also sought permission to organize foot marches and processions on the same day.

The peace meeting earlier organized by the Deputy Commissioner of Kalaburagi had failed when Dalit organizations had demanded that the RSS should not carry sticks or saffron flags during its march, instead insisting that the participants carry the national tricolor and the Preamble of the Constitution.

Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner Fauzia Tarannum has submitted a report in this regard to the court.

Based on their report, a bench headed by Justice MGS Kamal issued the order, directing that the peace meeting be held on November 5 at 3 pm in Bengaluru, preferably at the office of the Advocate General.

The bench further said that the proceedings in this case should serve as a guideline to deal with similar situations in future.

Advocate General Shashi Kiran Shetty said that the government’s objective is to resolve the matter completely peacefully. He informed the court that there would be no RSS march on November 2 and the government was ready to hold a peace meeting in Bengaluru on November 5. He also clarified that petitioner Ashok Patil was not present during the earlier peace talks and other representatives had participated on his behalf.

Petitioner’s counsel Arun Shyam informed the court that his client could not attend the previous peace meeting due to a death in his family.
