Bengaluru, Oct 18 (IANS) Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Saturday said the state government will hold a meeting with IT and biotechnology companies and listen to their grievances.
Shivakumar said, “In the coming days, I along with Karnataka IT and Industries Minister Priyank Kharge will hold separate meetings with IT and biotechnology companies and listen to their problems. For those who criticize us, our work will be the answer. We will continue to do our work without worrying about criticism. God and people have blessed us and we will serve them.”
Speaking to the media at Venkaiah Eco Park in Bengaluru’s KR Puram assembly constituency during the “Bengaluru Nadige” (Walk in Bengaluru) campaign under “Dialogue with Citizens”, the Deputy Chief Minister said while responding to a question on allegations of lack of development in the city.
“People can say whatever they want. But to ensure that taxpayers’ money is spent on their development, we have created separate municipal bodies,” he said.
Asked about Biocon chief Kiran Mazumdar Shaw’s recent statement that she is ready to develop 10 to 15 roads in Bengaluru, Shivakumar said, “I am very happy. Let her choose whatever roads she wants to develop. She has not yet discussed the matter with us. If she comes forward and discusses it, we will extend full cooperation.”
The Deputy Chief Minister said, “The newly formed five municipal bodies will create history in the development of Bengaluru. From Bengaluru city, Rs 6,000 crore is being collected as tax revenue, of which Bengaluru East Municipal Corporation contributes Rs 1,600 crore. Earlier, this tax amount was shared across all zones. Now, the tax collected from each zone will be spent in the same zone.”
He said, “Cases of road encroachment have increased in KR Puram area. Some people have constructed illegal buildings on four or five plots. The illegally constructed buildings will be demolished in the coming days as per the directions of the Supreme Court.”
He said, “A temporary relaxation has been given from obtaining occupancy certificate and completion certificate for 30×40 sites. This is only a temporary relief. From now on, everyone will have to get their building plan approved. Building more floors than allowed on small plots, or building houses without leaving setbacks and pooling them together will not be allowed.”
“This area has been approved as a national highway with flyovers and metro facilities, and a tunnel road will also be provided. I have passed through this area and discussed with hundreds of residents. I may not be 100 per cent right, but I am trying sincerely. I thank the local MLAs, former MLAs, former MPs, senior leaders, former corporators and resident associations who have supported this programme. The government and Bangalore Development Authority are committed to acting on their suggestions and providing solutions, Shivakumar said.
He said, “The complaints and grievances raised by the people during the ‘Walk in the Park’ will be resolved immediately. If the enthusiasm of the Congress workers has caused inconvenience to the public, I apologize. I will meet the Congress workers separately at some other time. This program is primarily to give more opportunities to the citizens. Those who could not share their grievances with me today can contact the ‘1533’ helpline and register their complaints.”
Shivakumar said, “The complaints raised here have been recorded by the media. The complaints and phone numbers of those who shared their issues with me have been noted. Our officials will resolve these issues and call them back. We will also tell them how the problems were resolved. As per the law, we will provide solutions and carry out necessary development work.”
