Bengaluru, Oct 11 (IANS) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s grandson Dhawan Rakesh on Saturday shared pictures with Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on social media, fueling rumors of his political entry.
Dhawan Rakesh shared seven pictures on social media platform Instagram, in which he is seen handing over a bouquet to Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and interacting with him.
In the pictures, Dhawan Rakesh is also seen with AICC national general secretary Randeep Singh Surjewala, Deputy Chief Minister and Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar, Minister Birthi Suresh and other dignitaries.
Captioning the pictures, Dhawan Rakesh said on Instagram, “On August 8, I got a chance to meet our Leader of the Opposition, Shri Rahul Gandhi Ji. This was only possible because my grandfather recognized how much I respect leaders and wanted to meet those who try to be honest in a place where honesty is rarely rewarded.”
He said, “Politics has always been part of my background, but meeting someone who has faced constant opposition and still wants to stand up for what he believes in was different. In a brief conversation, I told him I look up to him and as a student and future lawyer, I want to join him in pursuing that message.”
Dhawan Rakesh said, “We all should be a little more careful and look towards leaders who lead with transparency. Just as Rahul Gandhi talks openly with the public and the media, we too should be open to dialogue. I will always welcome it.”
Dhawan Rakesh is the son of late Rakesh Siddaramaiah, the eldest son of CM Siddaramaiah, who was managing all the affairs at the grassroots level for his father.
Rakesh Siddaramaiah tragically died on 30 July 2016 at the age of 39. He died of multiple organ failure at the Antwerp University Hospital in Brussels, Belgium, where he was being treated for pancreatic disease.
Rakesh was on a private trip to Europe from 21 July 2016 and attended the Tomorrowland music festival in Belgium. He was admitted to the hospital after he developed sudden health complications. On learning about his son’s condition, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, along with his wife Parvati and younger son Yatindra, a doctor, flew to Brussels to be with him.
Rakesh was survived by his wife and two children. At the time of his death, he was reportedly considering a political career and was expected to contest from his father’s Varuna constituency.
