Bengaluru, Oct 31 (IANS) As part of the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of freedom fighter and former Union Home Minister Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday organized “Ekta Nadige” (Unity March) near the party’s state office “Jagannath Bhavan” here.
Union Minister of State Shobha Karandlaje, while addressing the gathering, highlighted the unmatched role of Sardar Patel in uniting India. He said, “Why did such a situation arise in this country that we had to organize a unity march in the name of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel? There was a systematic conspiracy to sideline those who fought for the unity and integrity of this country.”
He alleged that under this conspiracy, Dr. BR Ambedkar was humiliated and deliberately defeated in the elections. Shobha commented, “The suggestions of Sardar Patel, the ‘Iron Man of India’, were ignored, leading to the partition of the country. From Kashmir to Hyderabad, India was divided into several provinces, and it was Patel who took it as a challenge to unify it into one nation, while other leaders were busy lobbying for power and positions.”
Referring to the need for awareness about national symbols, he said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi ensured that Ambedkar’s contribution was exclusively discussed for three days in Parliament, thereby spreading awareness about his work across the country. Meanwhile, the Congress only uses the names of great leaders like Ambedkar and Patel to divide communities.”
He further alleged that “some groups” are misleading the youth through the spread of drugs near schools and colleges. “This unity march is not only about national unity – it also aims to make India drug-free and instill patriotism among the youth,” he said.
MP PC Mohan, State Secretary Vinay Bidare, Bengaluru North District President S. BJP leaders including Harish, Bengaluru Central District President Saptagiri Gowda and several other party leaders and workers participated in the march.
In a related programme, Shikaripura unit of BJP organized “National Unity Padyatra for Self-reliant India” under the leadership of BJP state president and MLA BY Vijayendra.
The event, organized as part of the nationwide “Ekta Nadige” initiative under the slogan “One India – Self-reliant India”, began with the laying of floral tributes at the Martyr Memorial at Basaveshwara Park in Shikaripura. Tributes were paid to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India’s first Home Minister and Iron Man, for his invaluable contribution to the unity, integrity and solidarity of the country.
