Bengaluru, Oct 21 (IANS) Responding to the Congress-led government in Karnataka’s criticism of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and alleged attempts to stop it, the BJP said the RSS has the strength to face “hundreds of Priyank Kharges and Siddaramaiahs”.
Speaking to the media in Bengaluru on Tuesday, Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Assembly R. Ashok said, “RSS has the capability to face hundreds of Priyank Kharges and Siddaramaiahs. It has faced late prime ministers like Nehru and Indira Gandhi.”
Priyank Kharge is the son of RDPR, IT and BT minister and AICC president Malikarjun Kharge. Siddaramaiah is the CM of Karnataka state.
Ashok said, “When the organization has faced Prime Ministers, who is Siddaramaiah? He is just the outgoing Chief Minister of a state. People are cursing this government and want to end it. The RSS does not even take him seriously.”
He said, “RSS does not need the support of BJP. It is self-reliant and a strong social organization with the support of the people of this country. RSS is working in 56 countries.”
Taking a dig at Siddaramaiah’s roots, Ashok said, “Where is Siddaramaiah’s organisation? It exists only in a few ‘hundis’ – referring to Siddaramaiah’s native village Siddaramahundi. The RSS is not worried about this. They have taken it very lightly.”
“The RSS has faced huge challenges in its 100-year history. It has not cared for big leaders like Lalu Prasad Yadav and Mulayam Singh Yadav. Are Congress leaders stronger than them in Karnataka?” Ashok asked.
He said, “The RSS has never been impressed by such leaders. And who is CM Siddaramaiah? He will not be in office for the next one or two months. The RSS has ignored Siddaramaiah and Priyank Kharge’s attempts to challenge it.”
Responding to Tejasvi Surya’s recent criticism by CM Siddaramaiah, where he said that the Bengaluru South MP “represents darkness”, Ashok replied, “If anyone looks in the mirror, they will know who actually represents darkness.”
“The pothole-ridden roads in the state tell a better story of who’s who. That’s why Siddaramaiah always prefers to travel by helicopter,” he said sarcastically.
Continuing his attack, Ashok said, “What if Tejasvi Surya responded with a personal comment? Siddaramaiah once won by a margin of just 256 votes, and recently, he won by just 3,000 votes. He has lost the election thrice. Tejasvi Surya won by a margin of 4 lakh votes.”
Ashok also demanded transparency from the Congress government. “They should release a white paper on how much money Karnataka got for railways, road development and Jal Jeevan Mission during the tenure of PM Modi in the last 10 years.”
He claimed, “If you want to compare, make a chart of the money released during the Manmohan Singh-led UPA government versus the current NDA government led by Narendra Modi. The Modi government has given Karnataka five times more.”
“But they won’t reveal it. Instead, they keep saying that PM Modi is no good. Can you name one flyover, bridge or hospital built by the state government?” he asked.
Ashok concluded, “PM Modi has been praised by world leaders. They have even touched his feet for providing Covid vaccines. Has anyone ever invited CM Siddaramaiah or the Congress leadership? They think criticizing PM Modi will make them look big.”
