Bengaluru: On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the song ‘Vande Mataram’, a mass singing program was organized at the BJP state office Jagannath Bhawan in Bengaluru on Friday morning. During the celebrations, the party accused Congress of conspiring against ‘Vande Mataram’ since independence.
BJP State President and MLA BY Vijayendra, former Deputy Chief Minister and MP Govind Karjol, Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council Chalawadi Narayanaswamy, former Deputy Chief Minister and former Minister and MLA, State Vice President and State Coordinator of Vande Mataram 150th Anniversary Celebration Malavika Avinash, state officials, party leaders and workers were present.
As part of the 150th anniversary celebrations of Vande Mataram, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the year-long program in New Delhi, which was watched live on television by BY Vijayendra and other dignitaries before the local events began.
Addressing the program, BJP State President BY Vijayendra said that ‘Vande Mataram’ has played an important role in awakening the feeling of patriotism among the people of the country. However, he claimed that there has always been a conspiracy against it.
Vijayendra alleged, “Congress party has been hatching a conspiracy against Vande Mataram since the beginning.”
He further said that ‘Vande Mataram’ inspired India during the colonial period and played an important role in starting the freedom struggle. Vijayendra said, the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to organize a special program with the aim of motivating the youth through ‘Vande Mataram’ to make India a developed nation by 2047.
‘Vande Mataram’ was written by Bankimchandra Chatterjee in 1875 and first sung publicly by Rabindranath Tagore in 1896. In 1950, the then President of India Dr Rajendra Prasad gave ‘Vande Mataram’ equal status as the national anthem, Vijayendra said.
He said the song ‘Vande Mataram’ is a symbol of patriotism, integrity and unity which once united the country against British rule. In present times it represents growth and strength. He stressed that every Indian should be made aware of the importance of the song ‘Vande Mataram’.
