Bengaluru, October 15 (IANS) Leader of Opposition in the Legislative Council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, while commenting on the problem of potholes in Bengaluru city, asked the Congress-led government where the Rs 750 crore released for filling potholes in Bengaluru had gone.
Speaking at Jagannath Bhavan, the BJP state office in Bengaluru, he criticized the state government, saying it had failed to address the issues of floods, drought and pothole-ridden roads.
He said that despite heavy rains and floods in many parts of the state, the Congress government was not worried.
“BJP state president, I, Leader of Opposition in the Assembly R. Ashok, BJP MLC CT Ravi and several other leaders went to the flood-affected areas in two teams. It was only after our visit that the Chief Minister flew in and made some announcements. But those announcements never reached the people,” he alleged.
He said that people in Kalaburagi, Chikkodi and Vijayapura areas have already taken to the streets to protest against the Congress government. Drought conditions persist in districts like Chikkaballapur, Chitradurga, Tumkuru and Kolar, but the government has not shown any concern, he said.
Criticizing the Congress government for neglecting road repairs, he said, “This government has now started claiming that if the BJP had worked properly, there would have been no potholes. It has been two and a half years since we lost power. Every monsoon brings potholes on the roads, but even now the Congress thinks that our government is in power.”
“Whenever it rains in Bengaluru or anywhere else, water gets accumulated in the pits. The faces of the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and ministers are not visible in governance, but only in water-filled pits,” Narayanaswamy said mockingly.
“Despite many industrialists writing letters to the government, they did not care and arrogantly said, ‘Whoever wants to go, let him go.’ There were potholes during BJP’s tenure, we filled them. Today, the government claims to have spent Rs 750 crore on repairing potholes. If so then where did the money go? In whose pocket? Why are there still potholes?” He asked question.
BJP state spokespersons Prakash Shesharaghavachar, Mohan Vishva, and leaders Rudrayya and H. Hanumanthappa were present.
