The Greater Bengaluru Bill provides for all MPs and MLAs who reside in the state capital and are included in the electoral rolls of the city to be members of the Greater Bengaluru Authority.
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who holds the Bengaluru Development portfolio, said, “The public representatives who are voters here (Bengaluru) have been left out. We have some areas of Chikkaballapura Lok Sabha constituency represented by Rajya Sabha member Sudha Murthy, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and K Sudhakar falling under the GBA.
He will be a member of GBA. So this amendment is about that.” He said the amendment also makes the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary, Urban Development and the Secretary of the Finance Department as members of the GBA.
BJP’s S Suresh Kumar wanted to know whether voting rights at two places would be allowed if public representatives in the GBA could be voters in other corporations also.
