Karan Mehra breaks silence, bids farewell to television for two years: ‘I made a conscious decision…’ Exclusive

After almost two years, Karan Mehra is back in the television world with his latest show, Mehendi Wala Ghar. In an exclusive interview with News18 Showsha, Karan explained that he deliberately took a break to prepare for web series and movies. He shared that he even finalized Mehendi Wala Ghar at the last moment just because he was impressed by the content of the show.

“I am working on another show in 2021. Then I made a conscious decision to take a break from television as I was busy working on my music videos, preparing for OTT and films. This (Mahendi Wala Ghar) is for me Last minute. There were 24 hours left until the promo shoot. I got a call from the production team and spoke to the makers and they were really keen for me to do it. It was a lot of fun too. It was something I hadn’t done before . There was a flashback in the show where I looked younger,” Karan told us.

Karan Mehra on shaking off ‘Naitik’ image

Before joining Mehendi Wala Ghar, Karan played the role of Naitik in the popular show Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. The show, his character and chemistry with Hina Khan were widely loved by all. Even though it has been eight years since the 41-year-old actor left the Rajan Shahi show, he is still remembered and admired by many as Naitik. When asked if he wants to get rid of Naitik’s image, Karan said that he has been trying to do the same in different projects. However, he also admitted that it is difficult for the audience to accept him when he plays a villain.

“I do this a lot. In my music videos I play different characters. I play a drug addict. They are a guy I play who kidnaps children. I was a police inspector in one of my previous shows . Every character is different. Yes, I have played Naitik for the longest time. There is an ideology that Karan is like Naitik and so do I (laughs). I would love to get away from that. Karan Mehra: There is uncertainty among actors now

Karan further shared that a lot of things have changed now since he returned to mainstream television after a long time. He expressed disappointment and talked about how many shows these days don’t last very long. He believes this makes the careers of television actors very uncertain.

“The programming has changed, the audience has gotten smarter. They want to watch certain things. Artists are picky now too. They want to try something new too. You have social media now. Everything celebrities do Online. I think the only thing that has changed is that we don’t see shows running for very long now. That’s why there’s uncertainty among the actors as well, so they keep changing,” he said.

“Of course, for actors, somewhere down the line, all they care about is getting regular jobs. Today, we can’t predict anything. We never know how long a show will last. You just have to come in with a fresh mindset Do your job. Forget the rest. I don’t think much about TRPs and things like that,” he concluded.
