Bhopal, Oct 21 (IANS) Senior Congress leader Kamal Nath on Tuesday claimed that Madhya Pradesh is heading towards an “economic crisis” due to “large-scale corruption” in the Mohan Yadav government.
The Congress leader further alleged that the Madhya Pradesh government led by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has “failed” to convince the Center to get the state’s share in several key schemes launched for poor people.
Former Chief Minister Kamal Nath further said that Madhya Pradesh was to get Rs 44,000 crore from the central government in the current financial year; However, it has received only Rs 8,000 so far, which is about 18 percent of the earmarked amount.
The Congress leader said, “The Madhya Pradesh government is neither able to manage the revenue from its own resources, nor is it able to get the funds allocated by the state and central government. The economic condition of the state has deteriorated, and the government is left with only one option: borrowing more loans from banks.”
Talking about Jal Jeevan Mission, Kamal Nath claimed that Madhya Pradesh was to get over Rs 8,500 crore from the central government, but due to “rampant corruption” the Center has stopped releasing the funds.
Kamal Nath, a former Union minister, said, “It is shameful that the state’s image has deteriorated so much due to corruption. Even the BJP-led central government no longer has confidence in the Madhya Pradesh government.”
He further claimed that the Center has allocated much less amount to the state than the sanctioned amount, even for schemes like Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and MNREGA, which are meant for the poor and deprived sections.
Kamal Nath said, “The state government needs to curb financial mismanagement. The corruption prevalent in the governance system needs to be controlled, otherwise the situation will worsen.”
Earlier, Congress has been targeting the state government on the issue of OBC reservation.
