Kolkata, Nov 16 (IANS) West Bengal Governor CV Anand Bose on Sunday termed four-time Trinamool Congress Lok Sabha member Kalyan Banerjee’s allegation that arms and ammunition were being distributed from the Raj Bhavan in Kolkata as “provocative, explosive and irresponsible”.
Speaking to the media in the morning, the Governor also quoted William Shakespeare, describing the allegations made by Banerjee as “full of sound and fury, of no sense”.
Although he said that he will take whatever action is necessary in this matter, he did not give details of the action. The Governor said, “I will make up my mind on the matter and get back to you this evening.”
Ahead of Bose’s media interaction, a Raj Bhavan insider said the Governor’s office was considering all possible legal actions, including approaching the Lok Sabha Secretariat for action against Banerjee for her controversial comments.
Speaking to media persons, the Governor also said that Raj Bhavan has been kept open for Kalyan Banerjee, civil society members and journalists from 5 am on Sunday for inspection and verification of any arms and ammunition kept within the Governor House premises.
“Already, some people have come, and some are still coming. They can see everything for themselves,” the governor said.
The Governor’s office also raised questions: Since the Kolkata Police was guarding the Raj Bhavan, how could arms and ammunition be stored in its premises? Raj Bhavan has also demanded immediate investigation into the matter, as Kalyan Banerjee’s allegations indicate a breach of the security of the Governor, who enjoys “Z Plus” category security.
The Raj Bhavan office has also demanded from Kalyan Banerjee to tender an unconditional apology if his allegations made publicly are false.
A source said, “The Governor’s security officials advised him to leave the Raj Bhavan for a safe place till the investigation of illegal arms and ammunition in the Raj Bhavan is completed. “Whatever happens, I will stay in the Raj Bhavan,” the Governor said.
Speaking to media persons on Saturday, Kalyan Banerjee alleged that the Raj Bhavan was harboring “criminals” of the BJP.
The Trinamool MP also claimed that the Governor should first stop giving shelter to criminals and distributing arms and ammunition to them to kill Trinamool Congress workers. Kalyan Banerjee said on Saturday, “As long as there is an incompetent governor like you, as long as there is a BJP servant governor, you will not see anything good happening in West Bengal.”
