Hyderabad, Oct 13 (IANS) The Hyderabad district election officer on Monday denied malpractice in adding voters to the Jubilee Hills assembly constituency, where by-elections are scheduled on November 11.
District Election Officer R.
Investigation was conducted in four cases where a large number of voters were found registered in each household.
The allegation was that 50 voters were registered under one door number, while 43 voters were found under the other door number.
After investigation, the District Election Officer found that these names were part of the final rolls for the 2023 Telangana State Legislative Assembly elections and 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He clarified that no new nominations were made at all four addresses.
It was also found that some of the house numbers mentioned had multiple residences, leading to overcounting of voters. Fifty voters were found in a house with three floors and a penthouse. In the second house where 43 voters were found registered, there are 15 flats.
βIn short, it is seen that there is no change in the number of voters in the above mentioned house numbers since 2023 and the allegations that these are newly enrolled voters are completely false,β the district election officer said.
Citing a single door containing 43 voters, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders had accused the state Congress government of ‘vote theft’.
According to him, several complaints regarding voter enrollment had come to light in several areas of the constituency just before the by-election.
BRS working president KT Rama Rao accused Congress of ‘vote theft’. They displayed the list of 43 voters in a house.
BRS spokesperson Y Satheesh Reddy had cited the case of 43 voters under one house number. He even claimed that these 43 voters also included a voter who was originally a voter of a different constituency but was enrolled in Jubilee Hills just for these elections.
Another BRS leader, Krishnak Manne, alleged that voters from Nakrekal and Uppal constituencies were enrolled as voters in Jubilee Hills for the by-election.
As per the final voter list published recently, the constituency has 3,99,000 voters β 2,07,382 men, 1,91,593 women and 25 third gender voters.
In the 2023 assembly elections, the constituency had 3,85,287. Thus there has been an increase of 3.49 percent in votes.
The process of by-election started with the issuance of notification by the Returning Officer on Monday.
Voting will take place on November 11, while counting of votes will take place on November 14.
The by-election has become necessary due to the demise of sitting BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath in June.
