Hyderabad, Oct 15 (IANS) Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) Maganti Sunita on Wednesday filed her nomination for the November 11 by-election for Jubilee Hills assembly constituency in Hyderabad.

Along with BRS working president KT Rama Rao and other senior party leaders, he handed over the nomination papers to Returning Officer P. Sairam at the Shaikpet MRO office.

Sunitha Maganti is the wife of Gopinath, whose death led to the by-election.

Gopinath, who scored a hat-trick of wins from Jubilee Hills in 2023, died of cardiac arrest on June 8.

In the 2023 elections, Gopinath defeated former Indian cricket captain and Congress candidate Mohammad Azharuddin by 16,337 votes.

This time, Congress has fielded Naveen Yadav as its candidate, while BJP has once again fielded Lankala Deepak Reddy, who stood third in the last election.

Wednesday is the third day of filing nominations. A total of 21 candidates filed their nominations in the first two days.

As per the election schedule announced by the Election Commission, candidates can file their nominations till October 21. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on October 22 and withdrawal of candidature will be allowed till October 24.

Voting will take place on November 11, while counting of votes will take place on November 14.

Meanwhile, speaking to the media before leaving Telangana Bhavan with Sunita to file nomination, BRS working president KT Rama Rao said the by-election is not a contest between two parties or two candidates.

He said the election is between 10 years of development and good governance and two years of anarchy.

The BRS leader remarked that 1.67 crore women of the state are waiting for Sunita’s victory in Jubilee Hills. He hopes that with his victory the Congress government will fulfill its promise of financial assistance of Rs 2,500 per month.

He said, “Lakhs of farmers are hoping that she will win. Only then will Congress implement the promises made to them. The youth who were cheated after the promise of two lakh jobs are also keeping an eye on that young woman.”

KTR said that the poor of Hyderabad, whose houses were demolished, were also looking for BRS to win this election and stop the anarchy.

He also said that the minorities, humiliated by not getting a place in the cabinet, see this election as an opportunity to teach a lesson to the Congress party.

BRS leaders said that the Backward Classes (BCs), cheated in the name of BC announcement and reservation, are also ready to teach a lesson to the Congress party.
