Hyderabad, Oct 21 (IANS) Lankala Deepak Reddy on Tuesday filed his nomination as Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate for the by-election on Jubilee Hills assembly seat here.
He reached Shaikpet MRO office as part of a rally to hand over his nomination papers to Returning Officer P. Sairam.
Before leaving for the MRO office, Deepak Reddy met Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy, along with Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay Kumar and state BJP president Ramachander Rao, performed puja at the Vijayadurga temple in Venkatagiri.
Union Minister, State BJP President, MP Raghunandan Rao and other leaders participated in the rally.
A large number of BJP workers carrying party flags joined the rally, which passed through various parts of the constituency and reached the MRO office.
Deepak Reddy had unsuccessfully contested the elections from Jubilee Hills in 2023.
Maganti Gopinath of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) won the seat for the third consecutive time by defeating former Indian cricket captain and Congress candidate Mohammad Azharuddin by 16,337 votes.
In the multi-cornered contest, Gopinath got 80,549 votes, while Azharuddin got 64,212 votes. Deepak Reddy stood third with 25,866 votes.
The by-election was necessitated due to Gopinath’s demise in June this year. BRS has fielded Gopinath’s wife Maganti Sunita, while the ruling Congress party has declared Naveen Yadav as its candidate.
As per the schedule announced by the Election Commission of India, Tuesday (October 21) is the last date for filing nominations. Scrutiny of nominations will take place on October 22 and candidatures can be withdrawn till October 24.
Voting will take place on November 11, while counting of votes will take place on November 14.
Meanwhile, the state BJP president campaigned in the constituency on Tuesday. He talked to the local people.
In between the campaign he had breakfast at a local hotel and met the local people. He interacted with them to know their opinion and discussed local issues.
