MANILA, Philippines — John Vic De Guzman vows to come back stronger as he recovers from a knee injury.

The former Philippine men’s volleyball team captain revealed on Saturday that he suffered from a meniscus tear and chondral injury, needing to recover and rehab for three months.

De Guzman is currently part of the rebuilding national team pool under Brazilian coach Sergio Veloso but he has yet to see action due to his injuries.

“I will come back stronger. Be it on any commercial team or if still called for national team duty. Whether on the court or sidelined, my heart bleeds volleyball,” said the veteran opposite spiker. “I will keep on supporting the Philippine men’s volleyball in any way I can.”

The 29-year-old hitter played sparingly for Spikers’ Turf silver medalist Cotabato and trained with the national team.

The former NCAA MVP out of College of Saint Benilde last saw action for the NCAA All-Star Game, where he emerged as MVP.

The Spikers’ Turf second conference is scheduled in October.

De Guzman is also a GMA artist and a sports analyst for the network, juggling his celebrity duties with his rehab and training.
