Traffic Police Headquarters, J&K, has issued a detailed advice for passengers traveling on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) amidst a slow traffic movement and ongoing road maintenance.
Traffic on NH-44, between August 3, 1600 pm and 4 August, 1600 pm, saw three heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) and a significant recession between the breakdown of single-lane movement in Nashri-dalwas and between Marog and Kishtwari Pathar.
Important guidelines for passengers and operators
Photo ID mandatory: Passengers of Rasi, Katra, Udhampur, Patnitop, Doda, and Ramban are advised to identify valid photos for trouble-free route, especially after cut-off timing from Jammu/Udampur.
Travel time advisor: Passengers and LMV operators are strongly advised to travel during the day due to the danger of shooting stones between Ramban and Banihal.
HMV Guidelines: NH -44 is instructed to load vehicles as per official advice, considering single -lane restrictions and poor road conditions, fresh parishbals and livestock transportation.
Fruit producers warning: The load carrier transporting fresh yield from the valley should ensure timely loading and parking between the navig tunnel and Levadura for smooth transit.
Vehicle Fitness and Fuel: HMV operators are urged to avoid overloading, ensure vehicle fitness and move enough fuels before going to the highway.
Dhar Road Ban: HMV with only 6 to 10 tires is allowed to ply through Dhar Road.
Avoid unnecessary stages: Passengers should avoid unnecessarily staying, especially between Ramban and Banihal near landslide-prone areas.
Traffic plan for August 5, 2025
Subject to weather and road conditions:
Sanji Kafile/LMVS: Passenger vehicles will be allowed between Jammu and Srinagar in both ways on Jammu-44.
HMVS: permissible only on alternative days. TCU will coordinate with TCU Ramban for the release of Jammu/Srinagar.
Cut-off timing for LMVs/private cars
From Nagarota (Jammu) to Srinagar: 0600 am to 1200 pm
Jakheni (Udhampur) to Srinagar: 0700 am to 1300 pm
Kajigund to Jammu: 1130 am to 1400 pm
HMVs/load carrier
Under the condition of the road, HMV from Udampur to Srinagar will be allowed after assessing the road condition, in which no HMV is allowed posts at 1900.
Amarnath Yatra Advisor
To reduce traffic during Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2025, vehicles like fuel tanker, empty LPG carriers, FCI vehicles, and other HMVs (up to 10 tires) should return to Jammu via Magal Road, as according to the advisor of Divisional Commissioner Kashmir.
Additional road updates
Institute-Sythan-Anantnag Road (NH-244): LMVS/HPSVs allowed both methods to be subjected to road withdrawal. HMV is not allowed.
Srinagar-Sonmarg-Gumari Road (SSG): Permission for regulated movement. Vehicles from Minamarg to Srinagar (0500–1000 hrs) and Kargil (1130–1730 hrs). No movement after cut-off time.
Mughal Road: LMVS allowed both methods, while HMV (up to 10 tires) is allowed to Shopian to Poonach (0700–1800 hrs).
