Srinagar, 1 October (IANS) J&P, Mian Altaf Ahmed, met the Chief Engineer of the Border Roads Organization on Wednesday to discuss the progress on the construction of Mughal Road Tunnel, representing the Anantnag-Rajouri constituency in the Lok Sabha.
Mian Altaf represents Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat for the National Conference.
He met the Chief Engineer of the Bro in Srinagar and discussed the progress made on the construction of a tunnel on Mughal Road, which will build this road connecting the Valley with Ponch district of Jammu Division, an all-veder road.
The Bro has been handed over to the construction work of the Mughal Road tunnel.
An official statement said that Chief Engineer Bro Kashmir informed Mian Altaf, a member of the Parliament that the process for the construction of the Mughal Road Tunnel was moving fast and going in the right direction.
“Mian Altaf urged the Bro’s Chief Engineer to work and work more so that this important tunnel would be constructed so that people dependent on it would benefit.
Mian Altaf said, “The tunnel will provide a year-long option to the Jammu-Srinagar highway, which has often been seen recently due to landslides.”
He said that by facilitating maximum movement of people and goods along the tunnel route, it will also promote economic and tourism activity in the area.
Mian Altaf said that for apple producers and traders, the construction of the tunnel would come as a major relief as it is expected to provide a reliable alternative route for transporting fruit to the markets outside Jammu and Kashmir, which reduces the delay, the loss after defeat, and often the blockage on the blocked national highway.
Mian Altaf also urged the Chief Engineer of the Bro to upgrade and speed up the maintenance work on Galli Road, the important shopkeeper for a smooth journey.
The tunnel approved by the central government is estimated at a cost of about Rs 3830 crore and is being seen as an important option for NH -44, which suffers from landslides and closure during the harsh season.
